RETHINKING CULTURAL MEMORY: THE BATTLE OF WATERLOO, ITS IMPACT AND ITS HEROES
2015 – an important year for British and European cultural and national history with the anniversary of a historical event which has proven to be constitutive for the formation of British and European identity: the bicentennial of the Battle of Waterloo. A series of major commemorative events across Europe, including various exhibitions, performances, publications, international interdisciplinary conferences marked this anniversary. To conclude this momentous year the The Prof. V.I. Startsev International Association of Historical Psychology in cooperation with the St. Petersburg Branch of the International Energy Academy dedicates the next session (15.12.2015) of its inter-disciplinary seminar «The Simulation of Historical Processes» to the Battle of Waterloo. It will host a one-day conference Rethinking Cultural Memory: The Battle of Waterloo, its Impact and its Heroes focusing on this salient in European collective memory battle and engaging with its broader effect on popular culture, literature, and art.

The seminar discusses different approaches to simulation, structuring and the study of the historical process, to different ideas, notions, conceptions of the historical process in the art and the literature.
These themes will be considered by using a variety of approaches.
The seminar workshops were held on 6 June, 27 October 2014, 9 February, 20 May, 12 October 2015 (House of Scholars at Lesnoi, metro station «Polytechnic»). The first collection of seminar materials is being printed. A peer-reviewed collection with an assigned ISBN will be published based on the results of the seminar and the selection of papers that were submitted (all articles are subject to an internal peer- review).
Deadline for applications (full name, degree, position, rank, place of work, research interests, the theme of the report, abstract) -- 01 October 2015. The deadline for the submission of materials in the second collection will be announced after the seminar.

- Recent models of historical geography
- Historical psychology as a basis for the understanding of historical processes
- The history of philosophy and the philosophy of history
- The documentary and dramatic narrative: the problem of genre
- Global models of the historical process of the past, their present perception.
- The "application" of historical simulation: scenarios of the economic development of society and of controlled disasters, wars and revolutions
- Historical consciousness and historical education in different eras
- Personalities
- Concepts of cultural history
- Simulation of the literary process in different countries and at different periods/
Seminar attendance is free. The admission fee is to be paid when submitting materials for publication of the collection. Currently it is US$30.
