First International Conference on the English Language as a Means of Creating the Common Scientific Environment, February 13 – February 14, 2014.

Conference Venue: Moscow State University of Psychology and Education (MSUPE), Moscow, Russia.

The conference will focus on current issues of studying and using the English language as a means of international scientific communication. A range of the following aspects will be addressed:

The role of the English language as a means of global scientific communication.

Contributing publications to the international scientific journals.

The challenges of approaching Russian – English and English –Russian translation in scientific texts (the humanities, social studies, natural sciences etc.).

Updates in Academic discourse and the new principles of academic writing.

New strategies in English Language Teaching.

Who should submit abstracts?

University researchers from all disciplines

Deans, heads of departments & program administrators

Instructors, educators, editors and educational policy makers from the scientific world & the government agencies

Professional linguists, translators and interpreters

PhD students

Graduate & qualified undergraduate students

Other interested parties

Accepted abstracts and other conference materials will be published in a collection with ISBN-index.

Types of Presentations

Individual paper:

addresses current issues mostly from a theoretical perspective; explores approaches, challenges, different ways of problem-solving.

Time given: 10 minutes + 10 minutes discussion

Workshop:

practice-oriented presentation; aims at introducing particular skills and discussing specific practical tips.

Time given: 25 minutes

Group discussion:

group brainstorming; aims at experience sharing and problem-solving.

Time given: 5-7 minutes + 15 minutes discussion

All papers MUST be accompanied by visual aids (Microsoft Power Point or any other computer software).

Important Dates

Deadline for submission of abstracts: December, 20, 2013.
Notification of accepted abstracts by: January, 15, 2014*
Conference: February, 13 – February, 14, 2014.

*Abstracts of foreign participants will be examined in the first place due to the necessity of visa application.

Abstract Requirements

All abstracts must be submitted as WORD documents written in English and should include:

Title

Type of presentation (paper\workshop\group discussion)
The issues\approaches\skills to be explored
A maximum of 350 words
Font: Times New Roman, 12 point, double-spaced
Visual aids (Microsoft Power Point or any other software)

Please note that abstracts exceeding 350 words or not including visual aids will automatically be rejected.

Selection of Abstracts

Abstracts will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Does the topic fit into the conference topics?
Is the main idea of the presentation clearly stated?
Are the implications for theory and practice clearly stated?
Is the paper error-free in terms of grammar, punctuation, spelling and clarity of expression?
Does it meet the Abstract Requirements?
