INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM FOR THE 650th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONQUEST OF EDIRNE

Edirne served as the capital of the Ottomans nearly for a century and maintained its importance even after the conquest of Istanbul. Situated on the road from Asia to Europe, Edirne has been a settlement which all civilizations wanted to dominate since the very first historical ages.

Turks came to Edirne during the period of European Huns, shaped the territory and became a part of it. In 1361 the city was conquered by the Ottoman Turks and became a settlement of the Turks. With the conquest of Edirne, the Ottomans settled in the Balkans firmly. Thus its conquest is of great importance to Turkish History.

International Symposium for Edirne will be held in the honor of the 650th year of the conquest of Edirne under the leadership of Trakya University Faculty of Arts between 4th -6th May 2011. The aim of the symposium is to set forth the phases which Edirne has undergone since its conquest in terms of language, History, Cultural History, Art History, Social History, Literature and Architecture.
The International Symposium for the 650th Anniversary of the Conquest of Edirne that will be held between 4th-6th May will be in English and Turkish (simultaneous translation available). The papers should be original and not presented previously at other symposiums, congresses or seminars. The time allocated for the presentation of each paper is 15 minutes. Discussions will be held at the end of each session.

Accomodation costs will be met by the organization committee. Participants should meet their own communication costs. Communication costs for the participants who do not work in an institution will be met by the organization committee.
Those who are willing to participate in the symposium should submit their paper title and a 200-word abstract of the paper to the symposium secretariate via эл. почта by 31th January 2011.
